Ok, so happiness in Atlanta at AmericasMart was definitely seeing my artwork on products and meeting with Licensee's. However, work aside, I was seriously INSPIRED when I decided to stop down and see what all the frenzy was about in Building 3, in the 'Cash and Carry' jewelry section. I've heard women speak of this section - tons of jewelry, really cheap, that you can purchase on the spot and take it home with you right then and there. How could I NOT stop by, yes?
So, as I was wandering around in this area, I passed the most unique booth of clock parts made into jewelry...and then I had to turn right back around and look at EVERYTHING! The company is called Rewind Jewelry (clever) and Carlos was working his booth and designing gorgeously unique pieces at the same time. It was really fun and inspiring to watch. I think I was there for an hour or more looking at everything...and having some pieces designed while giving women a thumbs up when they would try something on that was striking. Ok, yes, I was hooked and completely wanted to help support this amazingly creative small business!
Here's what Rewind Jewelry is about (copied from their website):
We started creating this type of art because we’re lovers of all things industrial. We create what we have passion for & we’re fascinated by the history, artistry and the importance of vintage timepieces & objects.
We’re big believers in showing people what they might be missing in this world. By placing an object into a context where people see it as more important, we turn normal things into works of art. We love the stories, the beauty and the craftsmanship of these historic pieces and thrive on the challenge it poses to recreate & rework them into something that others can appreciate as much as we do.
The people who inspire us most in this world are those who take a chance on something because they love what they’re doing.
Here is just one of the many trays of gorgeous goodies that Carlos was working with to create new, exquisite pieces of jewelry.
I am so drawn to the unique, so when I saw these I knew I had to take some home with me. Here are 2 pieces that will be sure to be worn with some fabulous outfits. What was really great was that Carlos changed out a chain here, replaced a charm there and totally customized the piece to my whimsy. It was fun to have some downtime after a long day walking the show!
And one of these came home with me too...they were just too cool!
What's extra cool is that Carlos was able to tell me the year my pieces were made as well as other details. It's pretty exciting to know that I own a few pieces of up-cycled jewelry. I wonder who owned them before?
Aren't these pieces of jewelry fabulous?!? Can you see why I was so struck by them? If you'd like to keep up with what Carlos is making at Rewind Jewelry, follow their Facebook page for some serious eye candy! And if you just have to have one of these pieces too, be sure to reach out to them to get your own amazing up-cycled historical piece! (and support a small business at the same time = win-win!)
