Today I'm thrilled to share with you my Caravan Dreams fabric collection with Blend Fabrics! Caravan Dreams just launched this month and debuted at the Blend Fabrics booth at Fall Quilt Market in October.
Caravan Dreams is a feminine interpretation of a global expedition in a sea of bright color! Gather your friends for an adventurous quest through the world's delights to discover gems of inspiration. I absolutely adore this collection! The 'Caravan Dreams' paisley and the 'Deco Peacock' are my two favorites, if I do say so myself. I heart the other prints too, of course, but those two hold a special place in my heart.
I just received my photos back from my photographer, Natalie, from our shoot a few weekends ago, and I'm SO excited to share them with you today!
For Caravan Dreams, I was really inspired by 'glamping' and wanted to find a way to express this visually. I originally wanted to do the outdoor camping thing, but November in Seattle would just be too muddy, cold and miserable and we'd be crossing our fingers that it wouldn't rain. My photographer and I put our heads together and found a gorgeous Airstream to rent on Airbnb for the shoot, which was an absolute BLAST to set-up and hang out in!
Some wonderful junior high girls I know were really excited to be a part of the shoot (recognize any of them from my Just Dandy photo shoot?!?). I must say, working with girls who are SO excited to 'model' makes things a hundred times easier and so much more fun! It's truly painful for me to be in front of the camera, so I'm VERY thankful for their enthusiasm, and I must say, it shows up on camera! Aren't they ADORABLE?!?
I got really inspired one day before the shoot and just started designing animal pillows. I whipped together these two cute owls and a peacock which was a lot of fun - and they are super easy to make! If I can design and sew them up in 2 days, then they've GOT to be easy!
Don't pom-poms make everything better?
I am so very grateful for so many people who helped me make this photo shoot possible. I've been so very swamped these days and have started reaching out to others to help me in different areas of my business so I can be freed up to create more art. For this shoot, I had some wonderful sewers sew all of the garments, the backpack and the handbag. I seriously could not have done this without them and want to give a shout out to these lovely ladies for sharing their amazing skills and time with me!
Jill Wolfe from lovejill on Etsy sewed the shorts and this crazy detailed and gorgeous anorak. Seriously. Check out this anorak! The pattern mirrors down the front zipper. CRAZY beautiful, yes? Talk about skills Jill - WOW!
Courtney Davis from the Sweeter Than Cupcakes blog sewed the tunic. I absolutely LOVE how the back of the tunic is in a contrasting fabric. SO cool! Courtney completely saved me by coming up with this creative (and on trend I must say) solution, after we found that I accidentally didn't send her enough fabric of the main design. Happy accident, yes?!?
Susan Knight from Knesting.com (who makes IKEA slipcovers in gorgeous fabrics!!!) sewed the lovely crossbody bag full of multiple invisible zippers, and mixed prints for me.
Gwen Johnson made this absolutely stunning custom backpack for me using one of her very own backpack designs she sells out of her Etsy shop GJRDesigns. Isn't it PHENOMENAL? The inside has a contrasting pattern which makes it even more special!
Be sure to check out my Caravan Dreams page on my website to view the slideshow with more photos from the shoot as well as each of the fabrics up close!
Stay tuned in the next week or so as I'll be uploading all of the details such as sewing patterns used, etc. to my Sewing Inspiration page under Resources, just in case you'd like to make some of these designs yourself!
I'm also thinking of making my peacock and owl pillows into free sewing patterns that you can download. What do you think?
Thanks so much for swinging by and checking out my latest fabric collection! I've been so excited to share it with you and am so happy to have now done so. May these fabrics find their way to your stash and inspire many wonderful projects!!
